SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--A natural gas pipeline that erupted on Monday near Cleburne, north Texas, after utility workers accidentally hit the line has killed one worker and injured at least five others, media reports said.

Emergency officials had previously said that three workers had been killed in the explosion, but later retracted their statements, the reports said.

An Oklahoma electric transmission company, C&H Power Line Construction, was using heavy-duty digging equipment in the area when it struck the gas pipeline at about 14:40 hours Houston time (19:40 GMT), according to the reports.

Cleburne Fire Chief Clint Ishmael said all 13 workers on the crew at the site when the explosion took place were accounted for and that one was dead, they said.

The reports also said that several people were taken to a local hospital with burns.
