ABU DHABI (ICIS news)--The Borouge II and Borouge III projects, which were expected to lift the company’s total capacity of polyolefin up to 4.5m tonne/year, have remained on track, a company executive said on Tuesday.

“The Borouge II project is in the middle of starting up as I speak,” said Roy Vardheim, the company’s chief operating officer (COO), during a presentation at an industrial conference in Abu Dhabi.

All complexes in Borouge II at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, were scheduled to start up by November 2010 and it has stayed on time and on budget, Vardheim said.

“The Borouge III project is an evolution of Borouge I and II; it is the ethane-based, innovative polyolefin solutions,” Vardheim added.

He estimated the Borouge III project to be completed by end-2013.

Borouge was a joint venture between oil and gas major Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and polyolefin’s producer Borealis.

The two-day Middle East Petrochemicals 2010 conference was organised by MEED.
