SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China's Qinghai Zhonghao Natural Gas Chemical has started up its 600,000 tonne/year natural gas-based methanol plant in Golmud, western Qinghai province, after a few months delay, a company source said on Wednesday.
“We ignited the plant in late May and a crude methanol product was produced on 3 June,” the source said.
“After the plant runs for a while, on-spec methanol cargoes are scheduled for this month or the next month,” he added.
Trial runs were delayed from October last year until May due to severe cold weather in the area, according to the source.
The company had selected Johnson Matthey technology and catalysts for the methanol project, according to an earlier report.
