SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China's Lida Coking Company plans to start up a 100,000 tonne/year coal-to-methanol plant in central province of Shanxi next year, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

Construction of the yuan (CNY) 320m ($47m) plant started at the end of May and trial runs were expected to begin in late October 2011, the source said.

“We enjoy the advantage of local coal supply in Shanxi so feedstock is not an issue,” said the source.

When completed, the unit's turnover was expected to be about CNY220m/year, the source added.
