SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China’s Jiangsu Shenghong Chemical Fibre has started a new 200,000 tonne/year polyester yarn plant in Shengze, Jiangsu province, on 9 June, a company source said on Thursday.
“We successfully started up the new plant yesterday [Wednesday], but the operating rate will be maintained at low levels of around 50% for several days,” the source said.
The firm's new factory was a current direct spinning plant modified from a chip spinning unit formerly owned by Wujiang Differentiated Fibre, which was acquired by Jiangsu Shenghong in 2009, he said.
A direct spinning unit produces polyester yarn directly from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG), while a chip spinning unit uses polyester chip as a raw material.
With the new plant, Jiangsu Shenghong’s total polyester yarn capacity has reached 800,000 tonnes/year.
“Our target is to expand polyester yarn capacity to a total of 1.4m tonne/year in two years,” he said, adding that the company had the confidence to remain competitive due to its leading position in super thin yarn production in China.
