LONDON (ICIS news)--Pirates have shot at a jet fuel carrying tanker, the Ozay 6, off the coast of Nigeria on Friday morning but later fled, the company operating the ship said.

Densa Tankers said the 11,000 deadweight tonne vessel was on its way to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, when it was attacked. The vessel was not seriously damaged and its crew is safe, the company said. The tanker is now sailing to a safe anchorage area, it added.

There are frequent pirate attacks on commercial vessels off the east coast of Africa, but the number of attacks in waters off west Africa is increasing.
