SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--LANXESS will start construction of its new plastic compounding facilities at the company's production site in Gujarat, India, later this year, the Germany-based specialty chemicals producer said on Wednesday.

Construction of the new facilities, which would have an initial capacity of 20,000 tonnes/year, was expected to begin "in fall this year" without specifying a month, the company said in a statement.

The compounding facilities, an investment of over €10m, were due to go on stream with a workforce of 60 at the start of 2012, it said.

LANXESS said that together with its compounding plant in Wuxi, China, the new facilities at its Jhagadia site, in Gujarat state, would supply the entire Asia-Pacific region with its Durethan and Pocan engineering plastics.

The company would also be expanding its production capacity in Wuxi to 60,000 tonnes/year, the company said. The expansion was expected to be completed by the middle of next year, it added.

LANXESS has invested a total of around €50 million in the 13-hectare Jhagadia site thus far. A new facility for ion exchange resins is due to start production at the end of this year, it added.
