HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Eastman Chemical plans to restart its 3A Longview cracker in Texas, which was idled in November 2008 at the height of the global financial crisis, market sources said on Thursday.

The 141,000 tonnes/year unit would resume operations in early 2011, sources said.

The company decided to restart the unit due to improved forecasts for olefins demand in the long term, a market participant said.

An Eastman spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Eastman has another cracker in Longview with 141,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity and a larger unit with 358,000 tonnes/year.
