HOUSTON (ICIS news)--A court granted on Tuesday a request by several companies to block a six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The federal government issued the moratorium on 28 May, following a 20 April explosion at the BP-operated Deepwater Horizon offshore rig.
Oil had begun spewing from the blown-out well ever since - at rates estimated at tens of thousands of barrels per day.
Companies serving the offshore oil industry sued the federal government in the eastern Louisiana district of the US District Court, challenging the moratorium.
