China ethylene demand to grow 4.5% a year until 2015 - Sinopec

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Sinopec on Friday predicted that China’s ethylene demand will rise 4.5% a year until 2015 amid fast industrial development in the country.

By 2015, China’s ethylene consumption would reach 29m tonnes/year, while the country’s capacity would be around 20m tonnes/year, according to Sinopec.

Sinopec Group has an ethylene capacity of 9.3m tonnes/year, accounting for 64% of the country’s total as of April this year, the company said, adding that the average capacity of the company’s ethylene units is 620,000 tonnes/year.

Sinopec started up its 1m tonne/year cracker in northern Tianjin in January and another 1m tonne/year cracker at Ningbo, in eastern Zhejiang province, in April.
