HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Rafael Moure-Eraso has been confirmed and appointed as new chairman of the US Chemical Safety Board (CSB), the agency said on Friday.
Moure-Eraso, who replaces outgoing chairman John Bresland, was nominated by President Barack Obama on 22 March and confirmed by the US Senate this week.?xml:namespace>Moure-Eraso had previously served as chair and head of the department of work environment, school of health and environment at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
Bresland said he would continue to serve as a board member through March 2013.
The CSB also appointed Mark Griffon as a new board member after working 18 years as a consultant in the environmental and occupational health field.
The CSB is an independent US federal agency charged with investigating industrial chemical accidents.
The board does not issue citations or fines but makes safety recommendations to plants, industry organisations, labour groups and US regulatory agencies.
