Thailand’s PTT Chemical to restart HDPE plant next week

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s PTT Chemical plans to restart its 250,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Mab Ta Phut next week, after a month-long shutdown, a company source said on Wednesday.

The plant had been taken off line since early June for a maintenance turnaround, added the source.

Meanwhile, PTT Chemical’s new 300,000 tonne/year HDPE plant at the same site was still idle due to an on-site shortage of ethylene feedstock, he said.

The new plant was originally scheduled to start up in the first quarter of this year.

The producer had been short on ethylene as its new 1m tonne/year ethane cracker had not been running at full rates due to gas shortage, he added.
