S Korea’s Honam runs PC unit at full rates after expansion

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea's Honam Petrochemical has been running its 80,000 tonne/year polycarbonate (PC) plant at Yeosu at full rates since late May following a capacity expansion on the back of snug supply and healthy demand, a company source said on Wednesday.

The plant was taken off line from 13 May until late May - after the shutdown was delayed from mid-April - to increase its capacity by 15,000 tonnes/year, the source said.

Meanwhile, Honam was mulling further expansion to double the plant's capacity, although details were yet to be confirmed, the source added.

Polycarbonate resins are tough thermoplastics with major markets in the electrical and electronic sectors - such as computer and business equipment and optical discs - in glazing and sheet products, and in the automotive industry.
