SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--PTT Chemical plans to start commercial production at its new 300,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant at Mab Ta Phut, Thailand by early August, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The company had earlier delayed commercial production to April due to a shortage of ethylene feedstock, the source said, adding that the latest delay was due to technical problems.

Ethylene was still in short supply as the producer had been running its 1m tonne/year ethane cracker at reduced rates due to a shortage of gas feedstock, the source added.

PTT Chemical had recently begun selling imported LDPE as part of its pre-marketing activities in preparation for the start-up of its new plant, local distributors said.
