LONDON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell’s new 260,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Munchmunster, Germany, is now on stream, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant will produce HDPE injection, blowmoulding and textile grades.

HDPE prices in Europe had been firm throughout 2010 in spite of expectations of price erosion caused by an influx of material from new capacities in the Middle East and Asia.

HDPE prices were reported in a wide range, between €1,020-1,120/tonne ($1,291-1,418/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe) on a net basis.

Borouge had also started up its new 540,000 tonne/year HDPE/linear low density (LLDPE) swing plant at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, a source close to the company said.

The new PE plant was currently producing injection and blowmoulding grades. Other grades, such as film and pipe, would be introduced into the production system after a while, said the source.
