SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa had to shut its 520,000 tonne/year group II base oils refinery in Mailiao on Sunday night after an explosion at an upstream unit, said a company source on Monday.
There was an explosion at the refinery’s upstream de-sulphurising unit on 25 July and some downstream units, including the base oils refinery had to be shut, the source said.
The shutdown occurred just a week before the planned maintenance turnaround at the base oils refinery from 1 August.
“We will lose an additional 10,000 tonnes of production due to this shutdown,” the source mentioned. To discuss issues facing the chemical industry go to ICIS connect
