SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group, a subsidiary of China National BlueStar (Group) Co, has achieved on-spec production at its 30,000 tonne/year chloroprene rubber plant this week, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
On-spec production of the SN232 grade was achieved early this week and the material would be sold in domestic and international markets, the source said.
“This is good for the chloroprene rubber market,” said a market player, who added that the material was still in short supply, despite the recent start-up of the plant.
The plant - located at a major chemical and energy base in Datong, Shanxi province - was started-up on 4 May, the source added.
The facility is a 60:40 joint venture between Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group and Armenia’s Nairit Plant CJSC, and is the largest chloroprene rubber unit in China, the source said.
Chloroprene rubber is used in the manufacture of rubber tubes, oil-resistant rubber products and adhesives.
