TORONTO (ICIS)--Michigan’s state government has activated emergency response measures to fight a pipeline oil leak that is estimated to have spilled some 877,000 gallons of oil, according to the state’s government and media reports on Wednesday.

The spill, at the Kalamazoo River in southern Michigan, is from a pipeline that ships oil from Indiana to the Sarnia petrochemicals hub in Ontario, Canada.

The leak was first discovered on Monday, the Michigan’s state government said in a statement. The government said that Enbridge Energy Partners had shut down the line to stop the oil flow.

Media officials at Enbridge’s headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, were not immediately available for comment.

Associated Press, citing Michigan government officials, said that an estimated 877,000 gallons of oil spilled from the leak.
