The Best Product Innovation category is again sponsored by US-based consultancy CRA International, while the category for Innovation with Best Environmental Benefit is sponsored for the first time this year by North American chemical distributor US Chemicals.
Awards organiser John Baker, global editor for custom publishing at ICIS, commented: “The economic downturn does not seem to have stymied chemical companies’ innovation efforts, in the short term at least. Entries maintained their usual high standard.”
However, the number of entries was down slightly from last year’s record number.
Gregg Zank, senior vice president and chief technology officer at sponsor Dow Corning, added: “[An] unrelenting focus on innovation was very much apparent in all the entries we received for this year’s awards. And while the projects represented by the finalists are diverse, it is clear that the theme of sustainability continues to fuel our innovation pipelines.”
The winners in each category and an overall Innovation of the Year will be revealed on 11 October in a special issue of
