SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Chinese polyols maker Jiangsu GPRO Group will double its polyether polyols capacity to 200,000 tonnes/year after it builds a new unit at the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP) in Nanjing, east China, a company source said on Tuesday.
The construction of the new plant would commence by the end of this year and the current 100,000 tonne/year polyols plant located inside Nanjing city would be permanently closed once the new plant comes on line, the source said.
The completion date of the new unit was still not confirmed, she added.
“The local government wants to remove all chemical plants within the inner city. So, we are taking this opportunity to expand our capacity,” the source said.
The current operating rate of its polyols unit was about 90%, she added.
Meanwhile, the company’s joint venture with Kumho Petrochemical - Nanjing Kumho Petrochemical - was also planning to double its polyols’ capacity in 2011, the source added.
The polyols facility, with a nameplate capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year, is currently located at NCIP.
“The [polyols capacity] expansion is to match the increased local raw material supply and the expected improvement in the local demand for the next five years,” the source said.
Other key polyols producers in China include CSPC (CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals), Tianjin Petrochemical, Tianjin Dagu, Shanghai Gaoqiao and Hongbaoli.
