LONDON (ICIS)--Borealis has appointed Herbert Willerth as executive vice president, Middle East and Asia, with immediate effect, the plastics manufacturer said on Thursday.

Willerth, who was previously deputy CEO, takes over the organisational units that previously reported to Henry Sperle, who retired on 31 May, Borealis said.

Austria-born Willerth worked for the former PCD for almost 30 years before it was merged into Borealis. He was appointed Borealis executive vice president for operations and procurement in 2000 and, in addition, deputy CEO in 2008.

“We are very happy that he will now support me and the executive board by not only ensuring a continuous strong focus on operational excellence in Europe but in addition supporting our growth projects over the next coming years in close collaboration with our partners Adnoc (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) and Borouge,” said CEO Mark Garrett.
