Polimeri Europa plans 2-month PE shutdown at Dunkirk

LONDON (ICIS)--Polimeri Europa’s polyethylene (PE) production at Dunkirk, France will be down for a two-month planned maintenance outage from the end of August, a company source said on Friday.

“Our two PE lines will go down at the end of August and are due back at the end of October,” said the source.

Low density PE (LDPE) and linear low density PE (LLDPE) is produced at the Dunkirk site. LDPE has a capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year, and LLDPE 140,000 tonnes/year.

The 380,000 tonne/year cracker at the site would also be down.

LDPE and LLDPE prices have been firm throughout 2010, rising by over 30% during the year. Prices in July were lower, however, as product availability began to ease and producers transferred the €18/tonne drop in the August monthly ethylene contract price to converters.

LDPE net prices were hovering around €1,200/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), with C4 LLDPE prices slightly below.

Both LDPE and LLDPE are used mainly in the manufacture of film for the packaging industry.
