Mexico’s Pemex raises PE prices again in August

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Pemex Petroquimica, Mexico’s state petrochemical company, increased polyethylene (PE) prices for the second time this month, effective on 10 August, a Pemex source said on Wednesday.

The largest increase went to linear low density PE (LLDPE) hexane with 5%, followed by a 4% increase for low density PE (LDPE) grades and a 2% increase for high density PE (HDPE) injection and LLDPE butene.

HDPE blow moulding prices were unchanged.

Prices were adjusted to follow similar trends in imported material entering Mexico’s market, the source said.

Prior to the latest increase, LDPE in Mexico was $1,764-1,852/tonne (€1,341-1,408/tonne) FOT (free on truck), while HDPE blow moulding was at $1,257-1,389/tonne FOT, based on ICIS data. Mexico’s LLDPE is not currently assessed by ICIS.

PE demand has been steady in Mexico for the local producer. Fears of new weather-related disruptions in shipments from the US prompted buyers to increase emergency inventories.

On 3 August, the company had increased LDPE by 3% and LLDPE for extrusion and rotomoulding on 3 August.
