INEOS ethyl acetate shutdown scheduled for September

LONDON (ICIS)--INEOS is scheduled to shut down its 245,000 tonne/year ethyl acetate unit in Hull, the UK, from 1 September, market sources said on Friday.

The outage was scheduled to take 5 weeks.

However, both of INEOS’ crackers at the Grangemouth site were out of production this week; although one was planned, the other was not.

The unexpected cracker outage commenced on 6 August and it was expected to take a few weeks before repairs were carried out. It had resulted in a force majeure declaration on its ethanol supplies, but as yet there was no news of its impact on ethyl acetate (Ethanol is a feedstock for ethyl acetate).

“It could result in the (INEOS) ethyl acetate shutdown starting sooner,” one ethyl acetate re-seller said.

“It depends how much opportunity they have had to build feedstocks,” it added.

Prices were assessed this week at €820-850/tonne ($ 1,051-1,089/tonne) free delivered (FD) northwest Europe (NWE), according to ICIS.
