ExxonMobil restarts Singapore 600,000 tonnes/year PE unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--ExxonMobil has restarted its 600,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) plant at Jurong Island, a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.

"We confirm that the outage is over. Meanwhile we're working to optimize polyethylene production at the Singapore Chemical Plant to meet our customers' needs," said Karen Wong, a media relations and communications advisor at ExxonMobil Asia Pacific.

Market sources said that the PE unit might have been started by the company over the weekend.

ExxonMobil experienced an outage at its Singapore manufacturing site in early-August which affected PE supplies to customers.

The outage was however, isolated to the PE facility. ExxonMobil’s 405,000 tonne/year polypropylene plant and 900,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker at the same site were not affected, according to market sources.

ExxonMobil has experienced a series of outages at its Jurong Island-based PE facility over the past six weeks. The unit was also shut in early-July due to operational issues, prior to its latest outage in early-August.
