SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Sinopec subsidiary Jiujiang Petrochemical Co plans to mothball its 520,000 tonne/year urea unit in China’s eastern Jiangxi province by this September, a company source said on Tuesday.
“The unit is currently operating at 50% and will be closed down entirely by this September,” the source told ICIS in Mandarin.
The decision was made following plans by its parent company, Sinopec, to wind up all urea operations by 2015, the source said without providing further details.
Sinopec subsidiary Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co in Zhejiang province had also idled its 600,000 tonne/year urea unit since early April, market sources said.
Sinopec produced 932,000 tonnes of urea in the first half of this year, up by 4.48% from the same period in 2009, the company said on its website.
