US Q2 cumene output nearly equal with Q1- NPRA

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US cumene production in the second quarter was 1.841bn lb (835,072 tonnes), dropping less than 1% from the first quarter, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) said on Wednesday.

Production was 30% higher year over, rising from 1.416bn lb in the second quarter of 2009.

For the first half of 2010, total output was 3.685bn lb, up 28% from 2.877bn lb in the year-earlier period.

Meanwhile, cumene inventories dropped to 250.3m lb in the second quarter, down by 10% from 279.4m lb in the first quarter and down by 12% from the same period one year ago.

The companies reporting production figures in the survey were Blue Island Phenol, Citgo, Dow Chemical, Flint Hills Resources, Georgia Gulf, Ineos, Marathon, Shell and Sunoco.
