US Q2 styrene production rises 5% year over year - NPRA

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene production in the second quarter rose by 5% year over year, according to data the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) released on Wednesday.

Styrene production grew to 2.3bn lbs (104m tonnes) from 2.2bn lb during the same period of 2009. Production increased in line with stronger sales as the global economy improved from last year.

Production was unchanged from the first quarter of 2010.

Styrene inventories in the second quarter were 508m lbs, down 7% from 549m lbs during the same quarter of 2009. Inventories were down 13% from the first quarter of 2010.

Companies offering information for the survey included Americas Styrenics, Dow Chemical, INEOS NOVA, LyondellBassell, SABIC Innovative Plastics, Total Petrochemicals and Westlake Chemical.
