BASF begins planned maintenance at Antwerp styrenics site

LONDON (ICIS)--BASF has started a planned maintenance shutdown at its styrenics production site at Antwerp, Belgium, a company source said on Thursday.

“The site was brought down on [16 August] and will be back up during the second half of September,” said the source.

The BASF source declined to comment on the capacity of the plants to be shut down at the site.

According to the ICIS plants and projects database, the site’s styrene units have an annual capacity of 490,000 tonnes, polystyrene (PS) capacity is 220,000 tonnes/year and the acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) nameplate capacity is 200,000 tonnes/year.

All production of the above products at the site has been affected by the shutdown, the source said.

General purpose PS (GPPS) was trading around €1,250/tonne ($1,603/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe) on a net basis.

PS producers in Europe include BASF, Styron, Total Petrochemicals, INEOS NOVA and Polimeri Europa.
