HOUSTON (ICIS)--US fuel ethanol stocks fell by 7% to 17.9m bbl (750m gal) in the week ended 20 August compared with a week earlier, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in data available on Thursday.

US ethanol production last week averaged 835,000 bbl/day, down by 3% from 860,000 bbl/day in the previous week.

Market sources said hot weather could be affecting US ethanol production by forcing some plants to run slower due to difficulties keeping operational temperatures under control.

US ethanol production in July averaged 836,000 bbl/day, down from an average of 839,000 bbl/day in June.
