HOUSTON (ICIS)--Brazilian companies are seeking partnerships with Peruvian ethanol producers, part of a plan to take advantage of tariff-free exports to the US, according to a magazine article made available on Tuesday.
Peru's climate, soil and business environment made it an ideal place for ethanol production, according to AgroNegociosPeru magazine, which quoted Flavio Castelar, executive secretary of the Association of Ethanol Producers of Brazil (APLA).
In fact, representatives from 25 Brazilian companies may visit Peru in November, the magazine reported.
Peru could be part of a larger strategy, which would unify the sugar production of neighbouring Ecuador and Colombia, the magazine reported.
Peru could then export ethanol to the US, which charges no tariffs on the nation's biofuel. By contrast, the US charges a 54 cent/gal tariff on ethanol from Brazil.
