SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Yangzi Petrochemical, a subsidiary of China's Sinopec, will restart its 90,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant in Nanjing on 10 September following a month-long turnaround, a source close to the company said late on Wednesday.
“Domestic (MTBE) supply will increase,” he added.
Reflecting this, local MTBE prices in China weakened to yuan (CNY) 6,800-6,900/tonne ($1,000-1,015/tonne) on Thursday from CNY7,000/tonne on the previous week, traders said.
The tail end of the peak driving season saw easing gasoline consumption in the United States, they added.
The driving season, which coincides with the summer school holidays, takes place from June to September.
