US July MDI exports fall 24% year on year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in July were 900 tonnes, a drop of 24% from 1,182 during the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.

Exports were 22% lower from 1,158 tonnes in June.

On a year-to-date basis, exports to key destination Brazil more than doubled, rising to 3,286 tonnes in the first seven months of 2010 compared with 1,450 tonnes through July 2009.

Through July, total MDI exports were higher by 15% to 9,192 tonnes, compared with 7,958 tonnes in the first seven months last year, according to the ITC.

Through July of 2010, top destinations for US MDI were Brazil, which took 3,286 tonnes, China (2,064 tonnes) and Mexico (2,026 tonnes).

The US imported 414 tonnes of MDI through July, down from 1,288 tonnes in the same period a year earlier. Major suppliers of MDI imports into the US were Belgium, China, and Germany.

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow.
