US MA exports in July rise 27% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US maleic anhydride (MA) exports in July totalled 6,762 tonnes, rising by 27% from 5,314 tonnes in the same month of 2009, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.

Despite the sharp increase, MA exports in July fell by 7.5% compared with 7,313 tonnes exported in June, government data showed.

MA exports in January-July totalled 42,689 tonnes, nearly twice the 21,501 tonnes shipped in the same months last year, ITC said.

The surge in MA exports is due to a jump in exports to Canada, Europe and South America.

US MA producers include Huntsman, Lanxess, Marathon and Flint Hills Resources.
