US ethanol exports in July rise 57% vs June

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethanol exports in July totalled 95.2m litres, a 57% increase from 60.7m litres in June and more than four times the 21.7m litres shipped a year earlier, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.

Ethanol exports for January-July totalled 691.4m litres, compared with the 192.3m litres exported in the same months of 2009, government data showed.

The figure includes exports of denatured and undenatured (non-beverage) ethanol, the latter accounting for 33% of the shipments.

Canada, Brazil and the Netherlands ranked as the top importers of denatured ethanol, while the main importers of undenatured ethanol were the Netherlands, India and Mexico.

The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), a US  ethanol trade group, said only once in the last 20 years has the US exported more ethanol than it has through the first seven months of 2010.

According to the RFA, the US in 1995 exported 197.5m gal (747.5m litres) of denatured and undenatured ethanol.
