LONDON (ICIS)--Dow Corning will invest €35.5m ($45m) in a 32,000 square metre (345,000 square feet) distribution and storage centre in Feluy, Belgium, to expand its delivery capabilities in Europe and the Middle East, the US-based specialty chemicals company said on Monday.

The facility’s construction was expected to begin in the next month and be completed by the end of 2011, the group added.

“This distribution centre will allow us to improve productivity as Europe regains its economic strength and looks to Dow Corning for high-quality silicon-based products,” said Jim Whitlock, senior vice president, manufacturing, engineering and global operations.

“It is an important investment that demonstrates Dow Corning’s commitment to support future growth in Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East,” he added.

The distribution centre, which would employ around 130 staff, would be located on a 17 hectare (42 acres) industrial site near the company’s business and technology centre and production facility in Seneffe, Dow Corning said.

Belgium has a strategic position in the logistics sector and in the heart of Europe and provides access to multiple transportation networks, including road, rail and waterways,” said Whitlock.

In addition, the Walloon region in Belgium and the European Investment Fund would grant Dow Corning €10m of subsidies to support the company’s investment, it added.
