LG Chem plans $262m expansion of superabsorbent polymers unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korean producer LG Chem will spend won (W) 305bn ($262m) to expand its 72,000 tonne/year superabsorbent polymers and acrylate production facility in Yeosu, a company source said on Friday.

Work at the facility was expected to be completed by June 2012, the source said, but declined to reveal the size of the expansion.

Expansions were needed to keep up with demand from superabsorbent polymers-related products and to extend the firm’s business scope, said the source.

Superabsorbent polymers are commonly used in personal hygiene products such as baby diapers and sanitary napkins.
