Brazil ethanol prices rise on firm demand, tight supply

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Brazil’s ethanol spot prices continued to rise in the week ended 17 September on firm demand and tight supply, research group CEPEA said on Tuesday.

CEPEA assessed anhydrous ethanol at Brazilian reais (R) 1.0435/litre ($2.28/gal), up by 4.0% from R1.0030/litre in the week ended 10 September.

Hydrous ethanol was assessed at R0.8709/litre, up by 2.3% from R0.8514/litre in the previous week, the research group said.

Brazil blends anhydrous ethanol in gasoline at a mandated 25%, while hydrous ethanol is used as a stand-alone fuel.

CEPEA prices are ex-tank and do not include taxes.
