Axens wins design contract for Socar & Turcas refinery in Turkey

LONDON (ICIS)--Axens has been selected to provide its hydrotreating technologies for Socar & Turcas’s Aegean refinery project in the Aliaga province of the port city of Izmir, Turkey, the plant technology company said on Monday.

The refinery was scheduled to be commissioned in 2014 and have a capacity of 214,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd), Axens added.

Socar & Turcas’s refinery project would be used to provide diesel for the local market as well as deliver naphtha feedstock for Petkim’s planned petrochemicals expansion at its complex near Izmir, which it is currently seeking partners for.

With the expansion Petkim has planned to double its petrochemicals capacity by 2018.

Socar & Turcas, which owns a 51% stake in Petkim, is a joint venture between Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company Socar and Turkish fuel distribution company Turcas.
