Idemitsu Kosan to shut down Aichi refinery in late October

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Idemitsu Kosan plans to shut down its 160,000 bbl/day refinery at Aichi, Japan, in late October due to poor economic conditions, a source close to the Japanese refiner said on Monday.

The refinery will shut down on 22 October and will remain off line until 20 November, the source said.

Facilities at the Aichi refinery include a 160,000 bbl/day crude distillation unit (CDU), a 16,000 bbl/day vacuum distillation unit (VDU), a 50,000 bbl/day residue fluidised catalytic cracker (RFCC) and an 18,000 bbl/day naphtha reformer.

The company will shut down the Aichi refinery after it restarts the 120,000 bbl/day refinery at Tokuyama, which was taken off line in September due to poor economic conditions.

Earlier this year, Idemitsu announced plans to shut down part of its refining capacity in the third and fourth quarters due to poor market conditions in Japan.
