SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's fertilizer sales reached 2.711m tonnes in August, up 5.4% year over year from the 2.573m tonnes reported in August 2009, Brazil’s Fertilizer Distribution Association (Anda) said on Monday.
Figures were the best for the month of August since 2007. Sales grew due to growing demand for the beginning of the summer crop season in Brazil, the association said.
In the first eight months of 2010, sales grew 2.3% year over year, from 13.267m tonnes to 13.580m tonnes.
Production reached 867,000 tonnes in August, up 11.9% year over year, while in the first eight months of 2010, production grew 13.9%, from 5.305m tonnes to 6.040m tonnes year over year on stronger demand, Anda added.
