HOUSTON (ICIS)--US fuel ethanol stocks fell by 1.7% to 17.2m bbl (722m gal) in the week ended 24 September compared with a week earlier, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday.
Ethanol production as assessed by the EIA last week averaged 825,000 bbl/day, a drop of nearly 3% from 850,000 bbl/day in the previous week.
The EIA did not provide details on the reduction, but a market source said planned maintenance at a number of US plants could be affecting production of the biofuel.
US ethanol production in September averaged 855,500 bbl/day, up from 854,000 bbl/day in August, according to EIA data.
