BUDAPEST (ICIS)--BASF is expecting to complete the long-awaited spin-off of its styrenics business, named Styrolution, by the end of 2010, sources close to the company said on Monday.

The spin-off company would include styrene and polystyrene outside of Ludwigshafen, ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), SBC (styrene butadiene copolymer – Styrolux), as well as styrenic copolymers, one industry source said on the sidelines of the EPCA meeting.

Only styrene in Ludwigshafen would remain within the BASF Verbund, a company source explained.

No clear partner has been defined, he added.

The name Styrolution was registered by BASF in June 2010.

A BASF spokesman said on the sidelines of the meeting that a spin-off or potential sale of the business could be made within the next two years, adding that it was in an improved financial position.
