Haldia Petrochemicals shut 700,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--India's Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) has shut its naphtha cracker in West Bengal with a nameplate capacity of 700,000 tonnes/year of ethylene since 3 October due to a snag, a company source said on Tuesday.

“It wasn’t a leakage. There was a technical problem on Sunday and the cracker has since shut entirely,” he said.

The cracker was expected to resume operations in a few days, the source added.

HPL buys 50,000 tonnes of full-range naphtha each month in the spot market, mostly via tender, he said.

The company secures the bulk of its naphtha needs on a term basis, from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) , Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), and Kuwait Petroleum Corp, the source added.
