HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polycarbonate (PC) prices fell 5 cents/lb to $1.50-1.60/lb ($3,307-3,527/tonne, €2,381-2,539/tonne) as availability rose while demand fell, producers and distributors said on Wednesday.
The dip in prices came despite a slight increase in US automobile sales, which can include PC material in headlights and decorative bezels.
The optical-grade PC market fell in the US as consumers continued to favour digital media over CDs and DVDs, according to several sources.
Seasonal demand for PC had not been heard yet, but was expected to help increase demand later in the year.
Major US PC producers include SABIC Innovative Plastics and Bayer.
($1 = €0.72)
