LONDON (ICIS)--Air Liquide has commissioned a new 800 tonne/day oxygen production unit at Castelnuovo del Garda, near Verona, Italy, on the back of increased demand, the French industrial gasses producer said on Friday.

Air Liquide already operates another air separation unit at the site. It has invested a total of around €40m ($55.5m) in the facility.

The new unit, designed and built by Air Liquide Hangzhou, the group's engineering and construction centre in China, would bring the total production capacity of the site to 1,100 tonnes/day, it said.

"This new production capacity would enable Air Liquide to meet the increasing demand of its customers who are connected to the 700 km-long pipeline network that extends into Po Valley, between Genoa and Padua," the group added.

“With 12 production units installed in the region and more than €100m invested in Italy over the past five years, Air Liquide intends to support the development of its customers and consolidate its leadership in Italy,” said Augustin de Roubin, Air Liquide's vice-president for southern and eastern Europe.
