HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical said on Thursday its Freeport LHC7 cracker in Texas was off line after a steam turbine went off line early the previous day.

The unit has 612,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.

Dow said the shutdown would have no impact on downstream businesses.

The company has a second cracker at the site, LHC8, with 1m tonnes/year of capacity.

The outage in Freeport sent US ethylene prices spiralling up.

US ethylene for October traded at 38.00-38.25 cents/lb on Thursday, up from deals done at 35.00 cents/lb earlier this week.
