Dow has no plans to build TDI plant in North America

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical does not plan to build a toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant in North America, the company said on Thursday.

Dow was evaluating polyurethane (PU) investments in emerging geographies, and had the option to include TDI in those evaluations, the company said

Dow said it was constantly evaluating investment opportunities for its PU franchise and would preferentially invest in differentiated technology like the 2009 polyols capacity expansion in the Netherlands and the hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide (HPPO) project in Thailand.

The Thailand project was being jointly developed with Siam Cement Group (SCG) and was scheduled to begin production in 2011.

Dow shut down its Freeport TDI plant in Texas in April.
