Yisheng Dahua Petchem shuts Dalian PTA unit for turnaround

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yisheng Dahua Petrochemical Co shut its 1.5m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dalian in Liaoning province on 16 October for one week of maintenance, a company source said on Monday.

The turnaround at the plant had originally been scheduled for 20 October, but it was brought forward after the company experienced mechanical issues on Saturday, added the source.

“We notified our customers one month ago. It won’t have much impact on the spot market,” the source told ICIS in Mandarin.

Asian PTA spot prices dropped by yuan (CNY) 70-80/tonne ($11-12/tonne) to CNY8,400-8,450/tonne on mid-day Monday, dampened by softer PTA futures on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange, ICIS data showed. 

Meanwhile, Dalian Fujia Dahua Petrochemical Co - Yisheng Dahua’s main supplier of feedstock paraxylene (PX) - also began a week-long turnaround at its 700,000 tonne/year PX unit in Dalian on 16 October, according to a company source.

“Our shutdown was not related to our supplier’s [Dalian Fujia Dahua] turnaround,” said the source from Yisheng Dahua.

Yisheng Dahua Petrochemical is a joint venture between major PTA producer Yisheng Petrochemical Co and the Dahua Group. It operates two PTA lines with a total production capacity of 1.1m tonnes/year in Ningbo, eastern China.
