Eastman shuts down Texas cracker for planned maintenance

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Eastman Chemical on Monday began to shut down one of its Longview crackers in Texas for planned maintenance, the company said in a public filing.

The 358,000 tonne/year cracker was expected to be offline for about two weeks, the company said.

Eastman has two other crackers in Longview, each with 141,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.

One of those crackers was idled in November 2008, but Eastman plans to restart the unit in early 2011 as a result of improved forecasts for US olefins demand.
